Reindeer Run takes off downtown

ReindeerRun_08Despite cold, wet weather Saturday, close to 100 runners gathered at the courthouse to participate in the Paris Education Foundation’s Reindeer Run.

The event, which included a 5k and a 1-mile fun run, raised about $2,000 for PEF. It was originally scheduled for Dec. 7, but had to be postponed because of recent ice storms. Participants got a Santa hat and T-shirt with artwork created by Aikin Elementary student Jocalyn Leija.

The first place male 5k runner was Paris High School freshman Matthew Cochran. First place female was eighth grader Erica Cole.

The Paris Education Foundation is a non-profit organization formed to increase the number of scholarships offered to Paris High School graduates and to generate financial support for the students and faculty of Paris Independent School District. PEF also provides cash awards each year for a teacher of the year from each PISD campus.
