Downtown shoppers go a-wassailing

Wassail_04The second Wassail Fest was held downtown Saturday. The spiced cider helped warm up shoppers who braved the chilly weather to partake at various local merchants.

The best wassail was determined by votes. Participants were invited to sample and rate cider on a scorecard at 21 different shops:

  • Paris Bakery
  • Le Salon à Paris
  • OMG Botique
  • Smoking Hot Make-up
  • Green Boutique
  • Creative Candy Design
  • Margie’s Closet
  • Two Rivers Antiques
  • Lillian Kelley’s
  • Itsy Bitsy Spider
  • Paris Optical
  • The Plaza Gallery
  • Spanglers
  • 107
  • Collegiate Shoppe
  • Kay’s Alterations
  • Seasons of Paris
  • Bois d’Arc
  • Paris Baby
  • Gypsy Chic
  • Jaxx Burgers

Each business donated a door prize, from pizzas to sun glasses to gift certificates, which were awarded from a drawing of those who sampled and rated at least a dozen wassails. Most were served warm, as is traditional, but Paris Baby took a different approach with chilled wassail and a sign that read, “It’s always HOT in Texas, so we have a special treat for you. We melted a snowman and added a few special ingredients. Enjoy your COLD wassail!”
