The Reindeer Run 5k slated for this Saturday as part of the Holiday in Paris festivities has been postponed until December 21st, according to Sandy Holt, executive director of the Paris Education Foundation due to the winter storm expected to roll in on Thursday evening. Reindeer Run organizers met today along with local law enforcement and PISD school officials. At meeting time the forecast for Saturday morning called for 60% chance of snow/freezing rain with temperatures topping out around 33 degrees and with 20 mph winds, a windchill of 10F.
“Our main concern is people’s safety,” said Brad Ruthart, Paris ISD safety and security director, who is helping the police department coordinate traffic control for the event. “Even an olympic runner can slip on a patch of ice and get hurt.” With 100% chance of precipitation on Friday and temperatures in the 20s, there will certainly be ice.
The event will be delayed two weeks in light of the Santa Paws Pet Parade to be held next Saturday downtown.
