Chisum with a thrilling rally to defeat Prairiland on opening Night
Paris – The Chisum Mustangs found themselves in a big hole Friday night to their cross-county rivals Prairiland Patriots. Chisum, down by as many as 14 points, never lost hope in their thrilling 40-39 victory.
The Patriots took a 14-0 lead less than four minutes into the game and it looked as if Chisum was dead in the water. However, they got a little life back as they finally scored in the second frame to cut the deficit down to 14-6.
A little over a minute after Chase Reynolds drilled a 29 yard field goal for the Patriots, Chisum quarterback Nick Tisdell found Tyler Foiles for a 19 yard touchdown. Another Patriot touchdown would make the score 24-14 at halftime.
Less than three minutes into the third quarter and Chisum cut the lead down to three at 24-21 when Tisdell ran for another touchdown. Every time the Patriots scored, Tisdell did his best to keep the Mustangs within striking distance.
With the Patriots leading and under five minutes to play in the game, Foiles took his second interception of the night back for the go-ahead touchdown. It would prove to be the game winning touchdown as Chisum held on for the 40-39 victory.
