Big Innings Doom Lady Cats in Loss to Chisum
The softball season is young, and while the Paris Lady Cats continue the long road back to credibility, opponents continue to use the big inning to fuel run-rule victories. In Thursday’s season opener, Princeton managed frames of 9 and 6 runs to take a 23-6 win in 5 innings. Then, on Friday at the Paris Junior High field, it was neighboring Chisum which pushed across 10 runs in the third inning and another 8 in the final sixth inning en route to a 20-3 decision.
Paris (0-2) tries to find the win column Tuesday back at PJHS as the Lady Cats host Detroit in a pair of games. JV starts at 5 with varsity to follow at 6:30.
Friday’s game was scoreless after two innings before the Lady Mustangs plated 10 in the third. The Lady Cats trimmed the lead to 10-2 with a pair of runs in the fourth, but Chisum answered with 2 in the fifth to regain the 10-run cushion. Paris then scored 1 run in the fifth to avoid an early end before the Lady Mustangs’ 8-run explosion in the sixth finished it.
Outfielder E Harris collected 2 hits with 2 RBI to pace the offense, while Tiffine Haan and pitcher Alaka Walters hit triples.
