Both Lady Patriots and Palmer put runners aboard on Thursday, but it was Lady Patriots that was able to take advantage, pulling out an 8-3 win at Royse City.
Palmer had nine hits compared with Lady Patriots’ seven, but Palmer stranded seven runners on base.
Bailey Woodard led Lady Patriots’ offensive threat, as she got on base three times in the game. She scored two runs and had one RBI. She singled in the fourth inning.
Bri Calabria got it done in the circle on the way to a win. She allowed three runs over five innings. She struck out six, walked two and surrendered six hits.
Palmer’s pitcher couldn’t get it done on the rubber, taking a loss. She allowed eight runs in six innings, walked four and struck out three.
Lady Patriots closer Madi Gray put away the final six outs to record the save.
Lady Patriots stayed on top until the final out after taking the lead in the second, scoring three runs on an RBI double by Chelsea Kimberling, an error, and a fielder’s choice.
Lady Patriots built upon its lead with three runs in the fourth. A error scored Chelsea to get Lady Patriots on the board in the inning. That was followed up by Bailey’s single, bringing home Macy Madewell.
After pushing across three runs in the top of the fifth, Palmer faced just a 8-3 deficit, but that was all as the Lady Pats were able to end the threat.
Game two in this series will be Saturday night at 5:00 in Royce City. Game three will be 30 minutes after if necessary.
