Paris High senior Bri Alexander repeated last year’s fifth-place finish in the state powerlifting championships by winning her second fifth-place medal Saturday at the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association Championships in Corpus Christi.
Alexander, competing in the Division 2 (Class 3A) 123-pound weight class, posted a career best 730-pound series. She started with a 290-pound squat, added a 135-pound bench press, and finished with a 305-pound deadlift. The total lift was 10 pounds better than her mark at regionals two weeks ago, where she finished second.
The weight class was won by Cory Nutall of College Station with a 370-140-340–850 progression. Winona Garza of Port Isabel finished second at 765, and Sanger’s Erin Escobedo was third with 745. McKensie Piar of Hillsboro tied Alexander with a 730 total but was awarded fourth place due to weight differential.
Alexander was varsity co-head cheerleader for last year’s squad and also competes in track and field where she’s a pole vaulter and sprinter.
