The Pantherettes controlled the pace in the first half and took a 2-0 lead on goals at the 30:28 mark and with 12:24 remaining before halftime. The first NL goal came off a deep throw-in with an uncontested shot from 10 yards out. The second goal was a chip lob by NL standout Daisy Rangel that bounced over the goalkeeper’s head into the net.
Paris (2-3-1 in district) could manage just three rushes into NL territory during the first half, but began to apply more pressure in the second half. It resulted in a handball called on the Pantherettes just outside the 18-yard box. Lady Cat junior Julianna Clipson took the free kick and netted the shot just inside the right post to cut the lead in half, 2-1, with 24:41 left in the match.
With the Lady Cats pressing in the final minutes to notch the equalizer, the Pantherettes mounted a quick counter-attack, and Rangel got her second goal with just 39.9 seconds to play on a 20-yarder from a sharp angle on the right flank.
NL also won the JV match, 7-0. The Lady Cats’ next matches will be Saturday at Greenville.
