In a crucial game down the stretch before district play it was the freshman, Dextiny Patrick, who stepped up in toughness, tenacity and superb timing. Patrick made a number of crucial plays both offensively and defensively over the course of the game, but none was more memorable than the one that seemed to change the course of events with the clock winding down. With just a handful of seconds left in the game, Patrick positioned herself in the lane to rebound a missed shot. She leapt into the air to snatch the ball from the middle of a crowd of Bonham Lady Warrior jerseys and planted the ball in the hoop for two points to secure the lead. Patrick ripped down a career high 9 rebounds and had 6 deflections along with her 7 points to complete her outstanding performance.
Just prior to Patrick’s big play, junior guard Paige Dixon nailed what turned out to be a huge 3-point shot that pulled the team within 2 points and gave the Paris Ladycats a chance at the win.
Leading the offensive and defensive efforts again was senior guard, Luey Bronner, who attacked the goal over and over again for a total of 26 points while going 8 of 10 (80%) from the charity stripe. Bronner was a soldier on the defensive side of the ball. She played with strength and fortitude throughout the game, garnering 4 steals and 4 deflections and repeatedly curbing the Lady Warriors’ fast break to slow down their scoring attempts. Bronner’s 8 rebounds also helped to create a well-rounded game for the senior guard.
In the end, the Paris Ladycats scratched out a 52-47 win on the road.
