The North Lamar boys’ 8th grade basketball teams traveled to Atlanta on Monday and came away with a pair of wins. The A-team won 34-14, and the B-team won 19-17 on two free throws after the final buzzer.
In the A-team game, after being ahead by only 15-14 at the half, the Panthers held Atlanta’s Rabbits scoreless in the second half.
Seybian Holt led a third-quarter quarter surge by North Lamar and scored 10 points on the night. T.K. Hill led the Panthers in scoring and assists on the night, notching 12 points with five assists.
Matt Gibbons and Cody Williams led the Panthers in rebounding again. Zeke Wood and Austin Exum played strong defense against the top scorer from Atlanta, holding him to five points. Matt Gibbons scored four points to go with his seven rebounds.
Hudson Ward added three points, and Exum and Williams scored two points each. North Lamar moves to 3-1 on the season and is off until Jan. 9 when they will host Paris.
In the B-team game, Brody Evans was fouled on a 3-point try at the buzzer. He missed the shot, but made two of the three free throws awarded him, giving the Panthers their 19-17 win.
Ben Dong led North Lamar with seven points and Josh Dangerfield made a three pointer. Evans finished with five points as the Panthers B-team improved to 2-1 on the season.
