The Prairiland Patriots Junior Varsity football team defeated the Whitewright Tigers Junior Varsity Football team by a score of 36-14 on Thursday night at Patriot Stadium. The Patriots started off slowly and trailed the tigers early on by a 6-0 score before rallying to tie the game after Jordan Harrison scored from a yard out and then added a two-point conversion. The conversion was negated, however, due to a holding penalty. The second attempt at the conversion failed, leaving the scored tied at six.
In the second quarter, Harrison connected with Jeremiah Griffin for a six-yard touchdown pass to make the score 12-6. Ryan Stevenson found the end zone on the two-point conversion to make the score 14-6 Prairiland, a lead they would not relinquish.
In the second half, the patriots took control of the game behind a persistently smothering defensive effort and a pair of touchdowns by Jeremiah Griffin and Josh Harrison in the third quarter to make the score 30-6 in favor of the Patriots.
In the fourth quarter, the Patriots did surrender an additional score to the tigers but the patriots answered back late in the game with a Touchdown run by Kyler McCoin to wrap up the scoring on the evening with the patriots on the positive side of things, 36-14.
The Patriots return to action on Thursday against Rivercrest. Both the seventh and eighth grade teams open up their seasons against Rivercrest also.
