The Paris Wildcat football team will wear a helmet decal this season in honor of the late Doug Wehrman, who as a physical therapist worked closely with Paris High School athletes for 40 years.
Wehrman passed away last Feb. 14 at the age of 62 following a long bout with cancer. At the time of his death, he was president of the Paris Economic Development Corporation board.
He was a longtime physical therapist with Paris Physical Therapy Associates and in 1978 founded the city’s first physical therapy and sports clinic, through which he paved the way for ongoing athletic care in Paris and Lamar County.
Paris ISD presented Wehrman an award in 2008 in a halftime ceremony in recognition to his service to hundreds of students. He began working with the school district in 1972.
He was instrumental in starting the Wildcat Club at Paris High School.
