On Monday night, surrounded by his coaches and parents, Austin Anthony signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas. The 6′ 7″ left hander was also the starting quarterback for North Lamar this year.

“Hendrix is a great academic school and a Christian college. Plus they have a good basketball program,” Anthony said. “I just felt like it is where I’m going to fit in as a player the best.”

Hendrix head coach Thad McCracken is excited to have Austin coming to school there.

“[Austin] is a good basketball player and a good student. We feel like he will thrive at both [at Hendrix],” says McCracken.

The coach first came in contact with Austin last summer in Dallas when he was working at an academic camp in Dallas.

“He is a hard worker on the basketball court and he has a great work ethic,” the coach told eParis. “I think he will thrive in our system.

Austin’s current basketball coach, Homer Garner, is happy for Austin.

“It’s always good to have one of your own move on to play at the next level,” Garner says. Anytime someone can be coachable and work hard, they are going to have success. That’s what I see him doing for Hendrix.”

Currently, Austin will be playing basketball. However, he hasn’t ruled out other sports as well.
