On Saturday the Roxton Lions did something they had never done before; they finished the basketball season as the state champion. Roxton beat Douglas 60-54 in the Class A, Division II championship.The Lions beat Texline in overtime Thursday to advance to the championship game.
Roxton used a 21-13 run in the third quarter to get past Douglas. The Lions hit four thee-pointers in the quarter to take a 45-35 lead into the fourth quarter. Douglas would try to make a run but Roxton was able to survive each time. Qunton Walker finished with 20 points for Roxton while Lester Greene had 17.
Roxton came within one game of playing for the state championship in 2011 and 2012. This is the first state title for Roxton.
