North Lamar Panthers Clinch Playoff Berth in Soccer

NL LOGOFriday night, the North Lamar Boys Soccer celebrated Senior Night  with a play off berth by beating Greenville  4-3. Seniors Malachi Porter, Jake Roberson, and Jose Cortes showed leadership as they help motivate the Panthers to earn third in district. With a knee injury, Senior Julio Chavez was not able to play.

The Panthers scored first midway through the first half on a 20 yard shot from Nick Kreinzenbeck. Greenville answered to tie the score at 1-1 with 15 minutes to halftime. However, Forward Jose Leyva caught fire as he scored two goals to end the first half, giving the Panther the 3-1 lead.

The second half began as the first half with both teams playing hard and keeping the defenses busy. Greenville gained momentum half way through the second half and scored 2 unanswered goals to tie the game at 3-3. With time winding down, the Panthers turned up the pressure and with under 5 minutes left, Sam Erickson followed up a missed shot and found the back of the goal to give NL the 4-3 win.

“This team had to win to get that playoff spot. They found a way to do it tonite. I am very proud for them,” commented Head Coach Lance Johnson. “I am proud for my seniors. They have been great player and will be missed.”

North Lamar will not be in action again until March 23rd as face Sulphur Springs. It will be the last home game and last of the regular season. Playoff opponent and time of game with be announced at later date.
