TYLER, Texas — Ty Allen scored 11 points, leading Lamar State-Port Arthur to a 35-34 halftime lead over Paris Junior College Tuesday in their first-round men’s basketball game at the Region XIV basketball tournament.
The score was tied 12 times and the lead changed hands 10 times in the first half. The largest lead for both teams was three points.
Neither team shot well from 3-point range in the first half. Paris was 2-of-9 and Lamar State was 2-of 8.
Paris made 10-of-13 free throws, and the Seahawks made 13-of-17 free throws.
Lamar State is the tournament’s No. 7 seed, and Paris is the No. 10 seed. The winner will play No. 2 seed Navarro at 6 p.m. Thursday.
This was the third game of the day. No. 8 seed Trinity Valley beat No. 9 seed Angelina 84-71 in the first game, and No. 5 seed Lee beat No. 12 seed Blinn 76-73 in the second game.
The evening’s last game will pit No. 6 seed Tyler against No. 11 seed Coastal Bend.
