The North Lamar Pantherettes started off slowly against the Pittsburg Lady Pirates on Tuesday night in their home gym. The Lady Pirates jumped out to a 14 – 6 lead after the first quarter. Baskets came easily for Pittsburg as the Pantherettes tried to match the intensity of their opponent.
North Lamar would quickly correct the mistakes made in the first quarter as they held Pittsburg to seven points over the next two periods. During this time, the Pantherettes would ride the hot hand of Haley Hostetler as they climbed back into the game. Haley would lead North Lamar with 15 points. After holding the Lady Pirates to two points in the third quarter, Coach Wooldridge’s girls would take a 23 – 21 lead into the final quarter.
The final quarter played out much like the first one did, however, for the Pantherettes. North Lamar had plenty of good looks at the basket, however the shots just weren’t falling. North Lamar would end up with only two fourth quarter points as they fell to Pittsburg 33 – 25.
“I’m proud of [the girls],” said coach Wooldridge after the loss. “I thought defensively we played good, especially in that third quarter when they only scored two points.”
Lexie Chancellor had five points, Samantha Flippen three, and Lexie Stephens two.
North Lamar 6 9 8 2 25
