The North Lamar Junior Varsity boys soccer team lost to the Paris Junior Varsity squad 5-1 on Thursday in the first game of the Kings Trophy Tournament. At the half, Paris was up 2-1. North Lamar played tough and disciplined throughout the game. However, in the last 12 minutes, a few mistakes and some lucky bounces helped Paris pull away. The lone NL score came from Jose Leyva on a forty yard free kick shot.
“I am very proud of our play. We play with motivation and with idea of learning from each game,” said JV Coach Mark Caldwell.
North Lamar Varsity avenged the loss to Anna from a week ago, with a 1-0 win to open their tournament play. Jake Roberson scored on a cross from Abraham Costillo in the second half that gave North Lamar the win. With the wind at their backs, the Panthers had plenty of scoring chances in the opening half.
“We could not buy a goal in that first half,” Head Coach Lance Johnson said. ” Their goalie made some good stops, but we also need to finish on goal.”
The Panthers defense of Tyler Henderson, Malachi Porter, Presont Waters, and Sam Erickson kept the pressure on the Anna forwards thru out the game.
“Each player did their part in this win. The defense stepped up and cleared the ball. This was a team effort” Coach Johnson added.
