JACKSONVILLE, Texas – The Lady Dragons of Paris Junior  College fell behind early and kept fighting back but couldn’t quite pull it off in a 54-45 loss Tuesday night to Jacksonville Baptist College.

The Lady Jaguars led 14-3 early, and Pairs answered with nine straight points to get within 14-11 before Jacksonville hit a 3-point shot to pull away. Late in the half,

Jacksonville led 22-15 and Paris went on a 5-0 run to get within two points before the home team scored to take a 24-20 lead into halftime.

The Lady Dragons’ last big chance came when they pulled to within 46-45 with a couple of minutes to play but twice missed shots that would have put them ahead. Jacksonville then answered with another of its five 3-pointers to pull away.

Jacksonville improved to 9-7 overall and 2-1 in conference play, while Paris fell to 6-9 and 1-2.

Kelsei Ewings scored 1 points to lead Paris. Voche Martin added 11.

Susan Agesen scored 13 points and Devanyar Workman 11 for Jacksonville.

The Lady Dragons’ next game is at 4 p.m. Saturday against defending national champion Trinity Valley (14-1 overall and 1-0 in league play), whose only loss in two seasons is a forfeit in early December.

Trinity Valley had to forfeit because its entire bench emptied during an on-floor skirmish, resulting in five players being suspended.

The women’s game will be followed by a 6 p.m. game between the Paris and Lee College men’s teams.
