DENISON – Keandre Robinson ran for two touchdowns and passed for another, leading the Paris Wildcats to an 18-6 victory Friday night over Denison at Munson Stadium.

Paris improved to 1-1 and Denison fell to 0-2.

The Wildcats took the lead about four minutes into the first quarter. On third-and-20 from the Denison 43, Quay Henderson took a pass from Robinson, broke a tackle and went 57 yards for a 6-0 lead.

Denison had a chance to take the lead on the ensuing series but Jaleel Dade dropped a 29-yard, fourth-down pass in the end zone.

After the Yellow Jackets came up short in the second quarter on a fourth-down conversion, Robinson scored on a one-yard run five plays after gaining 13 on third-and-10 from the 32.

Paris went up 18-0 on a 19-yard run by Robinson in the second quarter.

The touchdown came three plays after the Wildcats’ Raheem Palmore recovered a muffed punt by Denison’s Keondrick Golston at the Denison 27.

Paris had a chance to extend its lead right before half-time when it had first-and-goal at the Denison 6, but the Yellow Jackets’ Khalil Brown knocked away a pass in the end zone as time expired in the second quarter.

Paris scored on three of its first five possessions for an 18-0 lead, missing the extra points on all three scores. The Wildcats went the rest of the way without scoring, totaling just 70 yards on seven second-half series.

Denison’s touchdown came with 4:47 left in the third quarter on quarterback Clifton Hines’ 48-yard pass to Quamie Bush.

Denison thought it had the ball on the Wildcat 21 after Robinson was stripped on the first play from scrimmage after the ensuing touchdown. But Paris maintained possession.

Denison was unable to cash in on three interceptions and a muffed punt.

Aaron Matthews came up with a recovery of a muffed punt at the Wildcats 37 about four minutes into the fourth quarter, Denison turned the ball over on downs. The next time the Jackets had the ball they again made it across midfield but the drive ended three yards short of a first down.

Denison got the ball right back with 2:43 remaining in the game on an interception of Robinson’s deep throw, but Hines then committed his only turnover of the night.

But Paris’ Dante Bills returned the favor, intercepting Hines on his only turnover of the night. Hines completed 18 of 36 passes for 184 yards and was plagued by several drops.

Hines was also Denison’s leading rusher, picking up 22 yards on 13 carries. But for the night, the Yellow Jackets’ ground game was mostly non-existent. Outside of Hines, the Yellow Jackets had only two yards on the ground.

Robinson completed 8 of 16 passes for 137 yards and two interceptions, and gained 88 yards on the ground on 20 carries.

Dakota Smith caught  two passes for 15 yards, and Joe Wallace and Kenny Mason each caught one pass for 10 yards. Mason rushed for 73 yards on 15 carries.

Smith’s only pass was intercepted.

Senior linebacker Jamal Black led Paris defensively with 11 tackles, including 7 solo. He had one sack and four tackles for a loss.

Linebacker Jordan Williams, one of only two sophomore starters, was credited with 8 tackles (6 unassisted), with one sack and two tackles for loss.

Junior linebacker Bricky Reed had 6 tackles (3 unassisted), with one sack and two tackles for loss.

Junior linebacker Josh Reynolds had 4 tackles (1 unassisted), including one sack and two tackles for loss.

Besides his interception, Bills broke up two other passes. Jay Garvin, Black, Reed and Reynolds each broke up a pass.
