Police arrest man in stolen vehicle that he said he 'borrowed'
The Paris Police Department arrested a man over the weekend from Tyler after he was found driving a vehicle that was reported stolen, which he said he’d borrowed from a man named James, according to police spokesman, Curtis Garrett.
The East Texas Auto Theft Task Force issued a report of the stolen vehicle containing a GPS tracking device that showed it to be in the Paris area. Paris police investigator, David Rowton, assisted the task force and located the vehicle in the 500 block of East Houston Street.
Officers made contact with 18-year-old Jose Oswald Lopez of Tyler, Texas. Lopez stated that he had borrowed the 2013 Nissan 370Z but couldn’t tell officers the last name of the man he’d borrowed it from, Garrett said.
Lopez was arrested and charged with theft of property (greater than $20,000). He was later transferred to the Lamar County Jail.
