Police Officer Assaulted Over the Weekend

Police-DepartmentOn Saturday, 4, 2014 at about 5:06 P.M., officers responded to the 3900 block of Bonham St where an off duty officer had been assaulted by a female. Paris Police arrested 31 year old Sarah Michelle Watts of Durant, Oklahoma when they found that she was extremely intoxicated. The off duty officer advised that he was nearly struck by Watts’ vehicle as it entered the parking lot and the vehicle was being driven very irratically. As the off duty officer attempted to detain Watts, Watts struck the officer with her fist. The officer had recently had knee surgery and was unable to detain Watts. Responding officers located and arrested Watts charging her with assault on a public servant and evading arrest. Once at the Police Department, a syringe was located in Watts’ clothing that contained methamphetamine. Watts also struck a second officer while being booked. Watts was subsequently charged with possession of a controlled substance in a correctional facility and a second charge of assault on a public servant.

Also on January 4, 2014, at 11:33 in the morning, Officer Jeffery Padier stopped a vehicle in the 2400 block of N Main for speeding. While conducting the stop, a back passenger of the stopped vehicle fled on foot. 28 year old Mayson Lee Freeman of Paris was detained by Officer Rhett Powell as he entered a business in the 2400block of N Main St. As officers were locating and arresting Freeman, a second back passenger fled from the vehicle. Officers located 31 year old Donald Lee Stewart of Paris in about the 300 block of Clement Rd. Both Freeman and Stewart were arrested and charged with evading arrest. Freeman was found to have probation violation warrant out of Delta County. The driver was warned of the traffic violation and released.

At 1:00 A.M. on January 5, 2014, Paris Police arrested 38 year old Fancy Woods Boss at her residence when officers responded to a family disturbance. Officers were advised that Boss had struck her husband with a piece of wood trim that had nails sticking in it. Officers observed that the victim had blood on his nose and that his shirt had been torn at the collar. Boss was located inside the residence and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. She was later transferred to the Lamar County Jail.

24 year old Derek Lane Armstrong of Powderly was arrested on outstanding traffic warrants January 5, 2014 when he was found to be a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped for not using a turn signal when making a left turn. The officer located marijuana in Armstrong’s jacket pocket. Armstrong admitted to having a handgun in the glovebox and ammunition and magazines under the seat. Armstrong was charged with possession of marijuana and unlawfully carrying a weapon.

At about 5:01 P.M. on January 5, 2014, Paris Police responded to a call of an intoxicated person in the 500 block of SE 13th St. Officers located and arrested 31 year old Scott Allan McDonald, Jr. of Paris. Officers observed that McDonald was extremely intoxicated and could not make sence of what he was saying. Upon searching McDonald, Officers located marijuana and methamphetamine in his pockets. McDonald was later charged with criminal mischief when he destroyed a mattress inside the jail cell. McDonald is awaiting transfer to the Lamar County Jail.

From January 3, 2014, through January 5, 2014, Paris Police responded to 267 calls for service and arrested 26 persons.
