Paris Junior College’s Continuing Education Department is offering courses to appeal to a wide range of professional and personal interests in March. Welcome to the World of Computers will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, March 17-20. This class is designed for the person that has very limited, if any, computer training.
Windows Essentials teaches how to create, copy and delete files using the Windows operating system, entering and editing data and customizing Windows to fit the user’s needs. The class meets from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday through Thursday, March 24-27.
The OSHA 10-Hour General Industry Certification class covers Occupational Safety and Health Administration training for general industry and will allow the student to be issued a wallet card certificate of completion. This course is offered 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday and Friday, March 20-21.
The Initial Basic Life Support class on lifesaving skills for respiratory and cardiac emergencies will meet from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, March 21, and again on Monday and Tuesday, 5:30-9 p.m. March 31-April 1. The American Heart Association certifies the class.
Basic Life Support Recertification for CPR certified cardholders is offered from 5 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, March 6. The American Heart Association certifies the class.
A Clinical Medical Assistant class will meet 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturdays, March 1-July 26. Clinical Medical Assistants assist physicians in the office of clinic setting.
The Dental Assistant program meets from 6 to 9:30 p.m. each Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, March 4-May 22. The course introduces the student to all aspects of a dental practice and all textbooks and materials are provided.
The Heartsaver First Aid CPR & AED (automated external defibrillator) class teaches basic first aid and CPR/AED procedures, including first aid skills recommended by the Occupational Safety and Health Agency, to those with a duty to respond to a first aid or cardiac emergency. The course meets 5-9 p.m., Tuesday and Wednesday, March 4-5. The course is also offered on Saturday, March 8, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Medication Aide Update will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, March 21. The course content fulfills Texas Department of Health specifications on annual renewal requirements for certified medication aides. Med Aides should take this course one month before their certification card expires.
A Nurse Aide class will be offered from 3 to 7 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, March 17-April 18. The class offers preparation for entry level nursing assistants.
Pharmacy Technician/Clinical will be held 6 to 9:30 p.m., Mondays and Wednesdays, March 3-April 28. This class prepares students to enter the pharmacy field and take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board exam. New to the class is an 80-hour clinical where the student gets to work in a pharmacy setting.
The Physical Therapy Technician class introduces students to the profession and trains them for an entry-level position as a physical therapy technician. High school diploma or GED required. The class meets from 6 to 9 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, March 17-May 12.
Fitness Swim will meet 6-7 a.m., Tuesdays and Fridays from March 4 to May 6, at the PJC Recreation Center. The course will improve swimming efficiency and endurance through drills, sprints, timed and distance swims.
CHILDCARE & PARENTING
The childcare workshop is designed for all childcare employees and meets the continuing education requirements for Texas as set forth by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. The class meets on Saturday, March 1 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Kids Hurt Too Seminar will be offered from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, March 22. This seminar is designed to help parents understand the needs of their children throughout the process of divorce.
The Driver’s Education class, approved by the Texas Department of Public Safety, meets from 4 to 6 p.m., Monday through Thursday, March 3-April 3.
Professional Truck Driving I is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, March 31-April 11. This class offers hands-on skill and development and instruction coordinated with the Department of Transportation.
Professional Truck Driving II is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, March 17-28. Basic and advanced skills drill and safe operating practices for shifting and backing are included in this class.
