Prominent early childhood consultant leads PJC childcare workshop
A childcare workshop led by a prominent consultant will be offered on Saturday, March 1. Paris Junior College, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension and Workforce Solutions of Northeast Texas partnered to host the workshop, which will run from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Keynote speaker is Kristy Thornton, Founder & CEO of Executive Business Consultants, on Supervision of Children/Incidents and Injuries. She will also offer two breakout sessions: Professionalism in Early Childhood Education and 101 Ways to Motivate Your Staff.
A sought-after early childhood education consultant and trainer, Thornton has over 20 years of experience as a preschool teacher, director, owner, and instructor. She has been recognized as an expert in childcare administration and management for the past decade. She presents management and leadership seminars to early childhood educators across the United States and has also worked as a consultant and expert witness with some of the largest law firms on childcare cases and lawsuits.
Thornton has done presentations for the Texas Licensed Child Care Association, National Child Care Coalition, Texas Workforce Solutions, Early Care & Education Association, Houston Association of Education for Young Children and more.
The workshop also features a second keynote speaker, Georgette Duke, who will present Parachute to Safety – Are You Prepared for a Crisis? Duke is the Director of Risk Management and Childcare Services at Texarkana ISD. Breakout sessions will include topics about discipline, child abuse, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, Shaken Baby Syndrome, Brain Development, Policies vs. Procedures, Recognizing Atypical Development in Young Children, and Food Science Activities for Preschoolers.
