PJC Continuing Education in January

Walters Workforce Training Center on 2400 Clarksville Street. Learn about what you would need for classes such as dental assistant, nurse aide, pharmacy technician and more before signing up.

GED® Preparation Classes provide adults education in reading, writing and math skills to prepare for the General Education Development test. You must call 903-782-0424 or email to sign up in advance. The classes are offered on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, Jan. 21 through March 6 at either 8:30-11:30 a.m. or 6-9 p.m.
The Initial Basic Life Support teaches lifesaving skills for respiratory and cardiac emergencies and meets from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 17. The course repeats at 5:30-9 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, Jan. 22-23, or on Thursday and Friday, Jan. 30-31. The American Heart Association certifies the class.
Basic Life Support Recertification for CPR certified cardholders is offered from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 6. The American Heart Association certifies the class.
The Heartsaver First Aid CPR & AED (automated external defibrillator) class targets day care workers, church nursery staff and parents wanting to adopt. The course teaches basic first aid and CPR/AED procedures, including first aid skills recommended by the Occupational Safety and Health Agency, to those with a duty to respond to a first aid or cardiac emergency. It will meet from 5 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday, Jan. 28-29.
Medication Aide Update will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 17, through interactive television (ITV) format. The course content fulfills Texas Department of Health specifications on annual renewal requirements for certified medication aides. Med Aides should take this course one month before their certification card expires.
Medication Administration instructs non-licensed nursing personnel preparation and administration of designated medications. The book is purchased separately at the PJC Bookstore. The class is offered on Mondays and Wednesdays, 2:30-5:55 p.m., Jan. 27-June 11, in ITV format.
A Nurse Aide class will be offered from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays through Wednesdays, or from 3 to 7 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, Jan. 6-Feb. 11. The class offers preparation for entry level nursing assistants.
The Driver’s Education class, approved by the Texas Department of Public Safety, meets from 4-6 p.m., Monday through Thursday, Jan. 6-30.
Professional Truck Driving I is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, Jan. 13-24. This class offers hands-on skill and development and instruction coordinated with the Department of Transportation.
Professional Truck Driving II is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, Jan. 27-Feb. 7. Basic and advanced skills drill and safe operating practices for shifting and backing are included in this class.

Focus on cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength and endurance with challenging workouts in Aerobics I, which will meet at the PJC Recreation Center from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, Jan. 13-May 8.
Fitness Swim will meet 6-7 a.m., Tuesdays and Fridays from Jan. 7 to Feb. 28, at the PJC Recreation Center. The course will improve swimming efficiency and endurance through drills, sprints, timed and distance swims.
Raquetball Basics teaches the basics of racquetball, including rules and proper gear. The course meets 5 to 7 p.m., Monday and Thursday, Jan. 27-March 27.
Learn proper techniques to develop muscular strength, endurance and flexibility in Weight Training I. The course meets 11:15 a.m. to 12:20 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays, Jan. 13-May 8.
The Child Development Associate class meets from 6 to 10 p.m., each Tuesday and Thursday, Jan. 21-May 8, in ITV format. The Child Development Associate (CDA) credential is awarded to individuals completing 120 hours of classroom training as set forth by the Council for Professional Recognition. The CDA credential will be awarded upon completion for a successful site evaluation and exam.
The Kids Hurt Too Seminar will be offered from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Jan. 11. This seminar is designed to help parents understand the needs of their children throughout the process of divorce.

Ceramics I introduces basic clay processes, gaze formations, and kiln, raku and stoneware firing techniques. The class meets from 5 to 10 p.m., Mondays, Jan. 13-May 5.
Ceramics II teaches advanced clay and glaze formulation techniques and introduces the potter’s wheel. The class meets from 5 to 10 p.m., Mondays, Jan. 13-May 5.
English as a Second Language (ESL) is offered for adult learners. You must call 903-782-0424 or email to sign up in advance. Classes are offered at Givens School, 655 Martin Luther King, Jr., Dr., Mondays through Thursdays from 8:30-11:30 a.m. on Jan. 27-April 10, or Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 6-9 p.m. on Jan. 28-April 10.
Elementary Spanish gives an introduction to Spanish language and culture. Learn pronunciation, fundamentals of grammar and listening comprehension. The class is offered at 9:50 a.m. to 11:05 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Jan. 14-May 6, or on Thursdays from 6 to 9 p.m. Jan. 16-May 8.
Intermediate Spanish emphasizes conversation, culture and composition. The class is offered 9:50 to 11:05 a.m., Mondays and Wednesdays, Jan. 15-May 7.
QuickBooks Level 1: Basic Skills will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Tuesday, Jan. 7-21. This is a popular record keeping software used by small businesses today.
Microsoft Word Essentials will meet 6-8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, Jan. 27-30. The class gives an overview of the word processing program.
Welcome to the World of Computers will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, Jan. 20-23. This class is designed for the person that has very limited, if any, computer training.
