Morgan Flippen signs with Ouachita Baptist

Flippen signing 2-5-14Paris Junior College soccer standout Morgan Flippen, one of the inaugural players on the PJC women’s soccer team, has signed to further her playing career and education as a Lady Tiger at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Ark.

“I’m really excited. I had a good experience at PJC, I loved it and I’m glad I was at home and still got to play and that my family always got to watch me play,” Flippen said. “Now I get to keep going and continue playing. I’m glad I’m starting this new chapter in my life at OBU. Their campus is so pretty, I fell in love with it.”

PJC’s first women’s soccer season was challenging and the North Lamar graduate had an integral role. As sweeper, Flippen played every game and contributed five goals during the 2012 season, helping the team to a third place conference finish. She was captain of the team, won PJC’s Most Valuable Player award for women’s soccer and made the NJCAA All Region XIV team. In the 2013 season, she returned as a core part of the defense, contributing three goals and five assists, totaling 11 points for the season.

Flippen continues a family tradition of PJC sports. Her grandfather is PJC alumnus Mickey Flippen, who played football for PJC in the team’s final year, then transferred to play for Southern Arkansas University. Later he returned to Paris and coached the men’s golf team, making the national tournament 29 times out of 33 years with the team. For these accomplishments Mickey holds a place in the PJC Athletic Hall of Fame.

“We wish Morgan all the best,” said PJC Assistant Women’s Soccer Coach Lauren Hatch, “and thank her for all the hard work she has put into the program over the last two years. We hope she always remembers her time as a Dragon for PJC.”
