Dickerson, Adams, Harmon lead Dragons to opening 79-61 victory in Richardson tournament
RICHARDSON, Texas – Delvin Dickerson, a 6-6 freshman from Houston, scored 17 points Friday, leading Paris Junior College to a 79-61 victory over God’s Academy in the Joe Huey Classic at Richland College.
The Dragons’ third straight victory improves their record to 5-3.
Anthony Adams and Mike Harmon backed Dickerson with 16 and 15 points respectively. Antonio Arnold and Eddie Leal added 8 points apiece.
The Dragons led 40-33 at the half. They out-rebounded God’s Academy 39-29.
Blue Smith led God’s Academy with 29 points.
PJC will play Connors State, the nation’s 13th-ranked junior college team, at 4 p.m. Saturday. Connors State (8-0) beat host Richland College 66-60 on Friday.
Connors State and PJC have two common opponents in the young season. Murray State lost to Paris 89-65 and to Connors State 58-35.
Richland College lost to Connors State 74-53 earlier in the season and 66-60 on Friday in the tournament. In a scrimmage game on Oct. 25, Richland edged Paris 46-42.
In its other games, Connors State beat Central Baptist (of Conway, Ark.) 87-66, Southwest Christian 87-65, Bacone College 81-54 and 84-50, and Arkansas Baptist 77-61.
Connors State is led by 6-1 sophomore guad Josh Cameron, who is averaging 13.2 points a game. Its next leading scorers are 6-1 sophomore guard Hakeem Harris (11.6 ppg), 6-2 sophomore guard Devante Moore (11.4 ppg), and 6-8 freshman forward Willie Atwood (10.8 ppg).
Denell Henderson, a 6-7 sophomore forward, is averaging 8.6 points a game, and Craig Hill, a 6-7 freshman forward, is averaging 6.2 points a game.
