PJC opens league play with 59-56 victory over Blinn; all seven Region 14 North Zone teams were on the road
The Paris Junior College Dragons put their mediocre non-conference performance behind them Tuesday night, opening the Region 14 race with a 59-56 road victory over the Blinn Buccaneers.
All 14 of the league’s men’s teams teams opened Region 14 play Tuesday night. The seven North Zone teams were on the road, playing in the gyms of the seven South Zone teams.
Paris led Blinn 35-22 at the half, and held off a second-half rally for the 59-56 victory. Paris improved to 4-3, and Blinn fell to 4-4.
Kilgore defeated Angelina 86-66. Kilgore improved to a perfect 8-0, and Angelina fell to 5-3.
Lamar State-Port Arthur defeated Tyler 81-72 … Lamar State is now 7-0 and Tyler is 6-2.
Lee defeated Bossier Parish 72-46 to improve to 8-1 for the season. Bossier fell to 3-1.
Trinity Valley handed San Jacinto its first loss, winning 62-60. Trinity Valley improved to 6-2, and San Jac fell to 7-1.
Navarro came from behind to defeat Jacksonville 62-59. The Jaguars led Navarro 53-51 with 4:24 to play. Navarro improved to 5-3, and Jacksonville fell to 6-2.
League newcomer Coastal Bend defeated Panola 78-58 to improve to 5-1. Panola fell to 6-2.
“it was a hard-fought battle,” Paris head coach Chuck Taylor said of the Dragons’ victory over Blinn.
“The first half, we controlled the tempo, we got out in transition, and wegot to the free throw line — the same things that won our championship last year. Then the second half, we resorted to doing what we do — making silly mistakes. But we handled it,” Taylor said.

Blinn beat McLennan 91-84
San Jacinto beat LSU-Eunice 60-44
In games involving Region 5 women’s teams, Midland defeated Ranger 101-49 and Clarendon defeated Adams State junior varsity 72-70.
