Ewings, a 5-3 sophomore from West Point, Miss., scored 13 points, and Jackson, a 6-2 sophomore from Irving, added 11 points.

The Lady Rebels improved to 2-1, while Paris fell to 0-3.

Hill College took a 37-31 halftime lead. With seven minutes to play, the Lady Dragons were within 55-51, but Hill used a 9-0 run to build a 13-point lead at 64-51.

Paris scored the last five points to account for the final margin.

Brea Castro-Gambrel had 9 points, Shanice Vaughan 7, Adrienne Small 4, Voche Martin 4, and four players – Shanice Hill, Lea Holt, Rickeya Williams and Ashley Johnson had 2 points apiece.

Turnovers were a problem. The Lady Dragons turned over the ball 22 points, and that was against only a zone defense, PJC coach Sean LeBeauf noted.

The Lady Dragons’ next game is Friday night at Murray State in Tishomingo, Okla. They return home Monday for a 6 p.m. game with Arkansas Baptist.

His team has yet to find the leadership and toughness it needs, said LeBeauf, who has a squad both younger and shorter than previous teams he’s coached.

“Even with my worst team, we always had a winning record. They were not as talented as this team, just tougher,” he said.

“We’ve got too many young ones, and at the end of the day, we’re just not tough enough. I have to find a way to get them tougher,” LeBeauf said. “It is what it is, but you’ve got to go above and beyond. That includes me. I’ve got to humble myself, work harder. We’ve all got to figure it out.”
He noted that he has only four sophomores among his 13 players.

“If there were more leaders than followers, that would help. But to this point, it’s all followers, no leaders.

Kiara Taylor scored 17 points on six field goals, including three 3-pointers and 2-of-3 free throws. Ashley Brown added 14 points for the Lady Rebels.
