Big second half gives Howard College a come-from-behind 92-69 rout of Hutchinson

HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Jacob Thomas went 9-of-18 from outside the 3-point arc, scoring 31 points to lead Howard College to a 92-69 rout of hometown Hutchinson College on Tuesday in the second round of the men’s national junior college baskertball championships..

NJCAA Men LogoCameron Forte added 26 points for the Hawks on 10-of-17 field goals and a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line.

Thomas opened the game with a 30-footer, helping Howard to a 6-0 lead before Hutchinson rolled off 10 straight points before a hugely partisan crowd.

Hutchinson led 38-30 at the half, but Howard doubled Hutchinson over the last 20 minutes – 62-to-31 – for an easy 23-point win.

For the game, Howard hit 11-of-28 three-pointers to just 3-of-16 for Hutchinson.

Turnovers were relatively even – 18 by Hutchinson to 15 by Howard. But the Hawks capitalized much more, scoring 26 points off turnovers to just 7 by Hutchinson.

The Hawks had two other players in double figures – 14 points by DaShaun Wiggins and 10 points by Ladon Carter.
