Paris city manager will begin search for a public works director
Paris City Manager John Godwin has been asked to begin a search for a public works director.
The city has gone without that position for the past year, following the retirement of Ron Sullivan. Godwin noted that the city had saved money by leaving the job vacant, and he said he had no plans to fill it, especially in light of the unanticipated costs from the December ice storm.
The Paris City Council looked at the issue Monday night at the request of District 6 Councilwoman Cleonne Drake, who said she was afraid the various department heads, as well as Godwin himself, might burn themselves out.
Various council members stressed they are in no way unhappy with Godwin’s performance in the public works sector, but felt that was stress not needed.
Godwin was asked to begin a search for a new public works director.
The city charter requires the city council to sign off on the city manager’s hiring of a department head.
