J. Skinner Baking & Campbell Soup expansions make state's 'Top 10' list for food processing industry

J. Skinner Bakery Company’s taking over of the former Sara Lee plant and a Campbell Soup’s expansion of its operation was big important economic news not only for Paris and Lamar County, but for Texas as well.

The office of Gov. Rick Perry recently released a report on the “Big Stories from Texas” economically for 2012-2013. Campbell Soup’s expansion in Paris and J. Skinner Bakery’s expansion into Paris both made the Top 10 for the food processing industry.

“This is great news for Paris,” Steve Gilbert, executive director of the Paris Economic Development Corporation, said in an e-mail Sunday night. “I wanted you all to know.”

The report listed the Top 10 new economic “wins” for Texas in seven categories: 1) Aerospace and Aviation; 2)Information Technology and High Tech; 3) Data Centers; 4) Financial Services; 5) Oil and Gas; 6) Advanced Manufacturing; and 7) Food Procesing.
