“We hope that all of our singers from the fall will return,” director Pat Fowzer said.“However, we have room for many more singers and would like to invite them to join us any Monday in February and participate with us,” she added.

Rehearsals will be every Monday at 7 p.m. in the fellowship hall of First United Methodist Church, 322 Lamar Ave.

“In essence, we are declaring the month of February as ‘Join the Choir Month!’ There are so many people in Paris who read music and sing in their church choirs or perform in the musicals at Paris Community Theatre,” Fowzer said.

This season, the community choir will be following in the footsteps of the movie release of “Les Miserables,” by performing a medley of its most popular selections.

The choir will also be preparing a cappella favorites, spirituals, and music from the Romantic era as well as contemporary selections.

The spring concert will be held on May 19 at 3 p.m. in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church.

The Paris Community Theater and its Board of Directors sponsor this choir. This year’s corporate sponsor for the season is Young Title Company and the law offices of Sydney Young.

Anyone with questions about joining the choir email Fowzer at or just come to a rehearsal.

Fowzer, who serves as music minister for First United Methodist Church, is in her 40th year of music ministry.

She was an instructor of music/director of choral ensembles at Paris Junior College from 1990 until her retirement in 2010.

For 24 years, Fowzer has led the annual Community Christmas concert, “Songs of the Season,” which combines the choirs of Paris High School, North Lamar High School and PJC Chorale.

At PJC, she directed the PJC Chorale and the PJC Chamber Singers and reformed the college’s show choir, which is now named Encore!

Fowzer was the music director for such musicals as “Into the Woods,” “Big River,” “Carousel,” “The King and I,” “Damn Yankees,” “Guys & Dolls” and “Chicago.”

She began her teaching career with Rivercrest ISD at Talco Elementary School before becoming choir director at Clarksville High School and later Paris where she was instrumental in developing championship choirs.
