ATHENS, Texas — The Dragons and Lady Dragons got little respect Wednesday in pre-season predictions for the Region XIV basketball race for 2013-14.
The pre-season picks were released Wednesday during the 16th Annual Media Tip-Off event on the Trinity Valley Community College campus.
Nine of the 14 men’s coaches and seven of the 10 women’s coaches were represented. Each coach took the podium to talk about his team’s prospects.
The men’s coaches picked the Dragons to finish fifth in the seven-team North Zone of the men’s race, while the women’s coaches picked the Lady Dragons to finish ninth in the 10-team women’s division.
Kilgore College, which won the regular-season title last year, was the top pick in the North Zone with 8 of the 10 first-place votes, while Lee College in Baytown was the top pick in the South Zone with 7 of the 11 first place votes.
Kilgore and Lee represented the conference in last season’s national championships in Hutchinson, Kan.
PSN Sports also had a pre-season poll and also went with Kilgore and Lee, though there were changes further down in the list.
