PEDC Executive Director Steve Gilbert and Mayor AJ Hashmi reportedly are to give a joint statement Thursday afternoon concerning the Paris Economic Development Corporation’s policies and procedures.
The meeting of the Paris City Council is scheduled at the council chambers at 107 E. Kaufman St., beginning at 5:30 p.m. It is open to the public.
Mum’s the word on what the statement will be. Both Gilbert and Hashmi have declined to elaborate.
The agenda states only that the PEDC executive director and the mayor will have presentations on policies on PEDC procedures.
Hashmi took a half-hour on Aug. 26 to rake Gilbert over the coals for what the mayor considered poor documentation on PEDC credit card expense reports. He declined to allow Gilbert or any PEDC supporters to comment from the council podium afterward, saying they would be allowed to comment at a later meeting.
Gilbert said after that meeting he would issue a rebuttal when allowed to do so.
But reportedly, Gilbert and Hashmi have met privately since then — along with a few other civic leaders, and may have made their peace.
Also, however, former City Councilman Bill Strathern, whose Open Records request of PEDC credit card documents led to the mayor’s attack, has asked for a spot on the next regular council meeting agenda to launch his own attack of the PEDC.
The council also will wrap up its budget talks as part of Thursday’s meeting.
