Paris ISD Board of Trustees Names Finalist for Superintendent

Paul Jones, of Saltillo ISD

The Paris Independent School District Board of Trustees, at a February 25, Special meeting, named Paul Jones, in Saltillo ISD, as finalist for superintendent. By law, the Board must now wait 21 days before voting to hire on March 18. Mr. Jones is slated to replace retiring Superintendent Paul Trull.

The Board of Trustees went into a special closed session at 12:30pm on Monday, before opening the session to press and the public at 1:05pm.  No action was taken during the closed session, and upon opening the session, trustee Dr. Bert Strom made a motion to make Jones the sole finalist in the running for superintendent.  Trustee Rickey Richardson seconded the motion, and it carried 7-0.

Following district policy, Deputy Superintendent Mark Hudson will serve as interim superintendent for the district.

The Board has followed a lengthy process in determining the finalist. In October, the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Executive Search Services was hired by the Board to direct the search. TASB consultants met with staff and community groups Thursday, November 15th, to discuss desired characteristics of the new superintendent. The profile developed from these meetings was the yardstick used by the Board and consultants in evaluating the applicants for the position.

“I want to personally thank all the board members for the many hours that you’ve all put in during this lengthy search process,” stated Board President George Fisher.  “Without the diligence of this unified board the district wouldn’t run at the level it does.”

The Board selected five applicants for initial interviews. Three applicants were invited back for a second interview. With the second round of interviews completed, a committee of the Board visited Saltillo ISD and reported back to the Board.

The Board is scheduled to vote to offer a contract to Paul Jones on March 18, 2013.

In salute to his many years of service, Board President George Fisher thanked retiring Superintendent Paul Trull and opened the floor to other board members, who also thanked Mr. Trull for helping to make the district what it is today.

“It’s been a pleasure serving this school district,” Paul Trull said to the board.  “Thank you for the many volunteer hours you’ve all put into this search process.  Congratulations to finding a replacement.”
