Steven Hohenberger speaks out concerning Coach Tommy Felty
With no official word from the North Lamar school district concerning the job posting on their website for a new athletic director, speculation around the community continues to arise.
First, people are wondering why Tommy Felty is no longer the athletic director. Second, there are questions concerning who will replace Felty, who has held the title of North Lamar AD and head football coach for the past 17 years.
Paris High School Athletic Director Steven Hohenberger spoke with eParis Saturday afternoon concerning Coach Felty. Coach Hohenberger just finished his first year as the Paris High School Football coach; a first year that would be considered a success as Paris went undefeated in District 13-3A.
“Coach Felty was my coach,” Hohenberger said. “He has always supported me and encouraged me throughout the years.”
Hohenberger also explained that if Felty feels like this is the time for him to move on, he wishes the North Lamar coach all the luck in the world in whatever endeavor he finds himself in.
“I’d like to remind the community on how successful he was,” said Hohenberger. “Sometimes you can’t measure success on wins or losses. Although he was in the playoffs a lot over the last 10 years before this past season.”
“No comment” was the answer given when asked about the rumors going around town that he might be interested in putting his name down for the position.
Hohenberger concluded the interview with this thought: “One major victory [Felty] had, though, was in my life.”
