Paris Lady Cats too much for North Lamar Pantherettes in district opener
It was the District 13-3A opener for both teams on Friday night as the North Lamar Pantherettes travelled across town to face the Lady Cats from Paris. From the very beginning, though, it was one sided. Paris played a suffocating defense that didn’t allow much room for the Pantherettes offense.
Coach Chris Arledge credited the Paris defense but also said his girls came out really hyped up because of the rivalry. After being outscored 15-4 in the first quarter, North Lamar got it together in the second and outscored Paris 12-8. North Lamar cut the Paris lead down to five in the third quarter at 26-21. From that point on, though, Paris outscored North Lamar 26-11 to finish the game. With the 52-32 win, Paris is 1-0 in District play and North Lamar falls to 0-1.
Leading scorers for the Lady Cats was Jazz Pipkins, who had 16 points while Katelyn Looney had 11. North Lamar was led by Lexie Stephens, who had 11 points. Lexie Chancellor pitched in eight pants for the visiting Pantherettes.
Next up for Paris is Liberty Eylau in Texarkana on Tuesday night while North Lamar will be home to face Pleasant Grove.
