In an offense like North Lamar’s, a wide receiver might get lost in the shuffle. The Panthers are a running team and that’s how Coach Felty wants it. They can throw the ball when they have to, and quarterback Austin Anthony has proven that this season, but the primary focus for the Panthers is to run the football.
Grant Kilcrease is a Senior wide receiver for the North Lamar Panthers. This is his second year on the Varsity squad. Kilcrease may have the title of wide receiver, but it’s his blocking that is what has helped the Panthers. When rushing the ball as much as the Panthers do, it’s imperative that the wide receivers block the defensive back, especially when one of the backs is trying to cut to the outside.
Grant grew up in Paris and has attended North Lamar his entire life. So far this year, he has straight A’s. When asked about graduation, he responded, “I’m ready to graduate. I’m ready to move off to college.” He’s hoping to attend Texas Tech where his brother also attends. He wants to major in Biology of some sort. Loving to be outdoors, he likes Biology and wants to spend his life doing that.
Outside of football, Grant likes to hunt and spend time with friends.
Besides playing wide receiver, Grant also plays defensive end for North Lamar. When asked what his favorite part of football is, he responds with “defense” emphatically. He explains he likes to hit people and he gets a lot more action on the defensive side of the ball. The coaches moved him to defensive end halfway through this season. Prior to that, he played cornerback and strong safety.
Besides football, Grant plays outfield for the baseball team. He also did power lifting last season but isn’t sure if he’s going to this year or not. Right now, he’s enjoying his Senior year and getting ready for a big game against Paris High Friday night. Be sure to watch Grant and the Panthers as they take on Paris High. Kickoff is at 7:30 from Wildcat stadium.
