The formula for the Panthers is simple: Win one of the next two games and you make the playoffs. Win both of them and you have a chance at a district championship. Thanks to a dramatic second half turn-around against Atlanta last week, the Panthers have put themselves in this position.

Going into halftime Atlanta held a 20 – 7 lead over North Lamar. The Panthers, however, came out in the second half and dominated the Rabbits as they outscored them 28 – 6. With the win, the Panthers are sitting in third place in district at 2 – 1. The one loss came at the hands of Liberty Eylau, where Chance Kelley was deemed down by the officials just before he rolled into the end zone on a two-point conversion.

Not only do the Panthers have a chance to make the playoffs this Friday night, but they will be facing their cross-town rivals Paris High. Coach Felty and his team will be looking to redeem themselves from last year’s loss to the Wildcats.

Like this Friday’s game, last year’s game was played at Wildcat Stadium as well. Paris High jumped out to a 14 – 0 lead in that game before the Panthers fought back to tie the score at 21. The equalizer came when Reed Scudder intercepted the Wildcat quarterback, Corban Taylor, and ran it back 55 yards. Paris High would rattle off 21 straight points and then hold off a late surge by the Panthers for a 42 – 35 win.

North Lamar will look to get off to a quick start, both offensively and defensively Friday. Also, you may notice a familiar number back on the field Friday night for the Panthers. Number four will be back on the field for North Lamar. Number four is the jersey that belongs to Reed Scudder, the Panther who was lost for the season in the first scrimmage game this year. Ian Dukleth, with permission from Scudder, will be donning Reed’s jersey on Friday night for the Panthers.

Whether its number four returning an interception or number twenty five running for a touchdown, the Panthers are hoping to clinch a playoff spot this weekend against Paris High.
