Eric Dickey – Right Guard for the North Lamar Panthers

Ask any offensive coach and he will tell you that the offense cannot be successful without good play from the offensive line. Whether it’s creating a hole for the running back or blocking for the quarterback, the offensive line is critical in the outcome of the game.  This is where Eric Dickey comes into play.

Eric is a Senior at North Lamar High School, playing his first year on Varsity. He plays Right Guard on the offensive line for the Panthers. Having played football since sixth grade, he understands what is required from his position really well.

“We just try to beat everyone that’s across from us,” Dickey says in an interview with eParisExtra. “[We] pound them first before they get to us. We beat them up, see how soft they are, and then take advantage of that.”

Dickey has grown up in the Paris area and has attended North Lamar his entire life. Although he’s not completely sure where he would like to attend college, he would like possibly to pursue a degree in business.

Outside of school, Dickey likes to hang out with his friends, hunt, and fish. Besides football, Eric also plays baseball for the Panthers. You can watch him pitch or play third base even. For now, though, you can find him blocking defenders and creating holes for his teammates.

“He’s really come on this year,” head coach Tommy Felty said about Eric. “[He] worked hard in the offseason and really got stronger. He’s really been a stable part of our offensive line. I’ve been really proud how he stepped up and took on the starting role of the offensive guard.”

Dickey and the rest of the offensive line have paved the way for the offense to have some huge success so far this season. They were a pivotal part of Austin Anthony’s 225 yards passing against Quinlan Ford. When Chance Kelley rushed for 285 yards against Pittsburg, it was Dickey and the rest of the offensive line that contributed to that feat as well.

Eric loves to play football, but when asked about his favorite part of the game, “Hitting someone” was his response. From the way the box score reads most nights, it’s evident that hitting is something he is good at.

Be sure to watch Eric Dickey and the Panthers this Friday night as they host Atlanta at RL Maddox stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30.
