Tami Slagle PortraitTAMI DENISE SLAGLE, 53, of Chicota, passed from this life on Tuesday July 29, 2014. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday August 1, 2014 in the chapel of Starrett Funeral Home with Rev. Raymond Johns officiating. Interment will follow in the Forest Chapel Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Tami was born January 8, 1961 in Roswell, New Mexico, the daughter of Arnol Alvin and Sharon Floyd Thomas Duncan. She moved with her family to Irving at an early age, where she graduated public schools, then attended Brookhaven College.  Tami was the consummate mother, and saw to it that anything that her boys were involved in, she would be involved, too. She felt it important that her sons have the benefit of participation in any event or organization that held their interest, and never complained that her life was caught up in their activities, large or small. She worked closely with the school PTA and FFA, and was active in the 4-H clubs. She was loved as a substitute teacher in the Roxton school district, but the love she gave back was greater than she received. A true “Universal Mom,” she willingly gave herself to every involvement that her boys chose. Her life was the epitome of caregiving, uplifting, and loving, even when its cost was high.

She married Terry Slagle on March 23, 1984 in Irving. He survives. Other survivors include two sons, Tanner Slagle and Taylor Slagle, all of Chicota; her father, Arnol Duncan; her aunt Becky Diehl; her father-in-law Gene Slagle; and her feline friend and companion Layla.

Tami is preceded in death by her mother Sharon; her grandparents, Floyd and Eloise Thomas, and Alvin and Ruby Duncan; and a cousin Jeffrey Diehl.

Named to serve as pallbearers are Darren Diehl, Gene Stockton, Bryan Slagle, Jeffrey Slagle, Dale Diehl, and Mike Parson. Named as honorary pallbearers are Rowdy Spangler and Harley Martin.
