Golden Northam Gillespie, 88, of Longview, Texas passed away July 7, 2014 at home. The funeral service will be conducted by Rev. Ken Cannon and held Friday, July 11, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time, Friday, in the chapel. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Mrs. Gillespie was born November 6, 1925 in Lamar County, later moving to Paris. She was the daughter of the late James Elton and Lynda Sims Northam. She was married to the late Mack Alton Gillespie on March 7, 1970 and celebrated 40 years of marriage with him.
After finishing Paris High School and attending Paris Jr. College, she was employed at Hamp Malone Electric, Sears Credit Department, Southland Cotton and Oil Company, and the last 29 of her 40 years employment at Lamar County Electric Cooperative as Assistant to the Manager. She retired on March 6, 1988.
Mrs. Gillespie was a member of First Baptist Church for 43 years where she had been a member of the choir, taught Sunday School classes and was a member of the Phoebe Sunday School Class. In 2004 she moved to Longview and became a member of Oakland Heights Baptist Church. Her other interest was art and she was a member of the Paris Art Study Club and later the Mt. Pleasant Art Guild.
Mrs. Gillespie is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Jeannie) Griffin of Houston and Mrs. Ron (Jayne) Bigony of Longview. Also, a granddaughter, Mrs. Larry (Alecia) Lawyer of Houston and two great-grandsons, Jacob Gregory Lawyer and Zachary Marker Lawyer of Houston. Also surviving is a daughter-in-law, Donna Reid Ellis.
Mrs. Gillespie was preceded in death by her parents James Elton and Lynda Sims Northam, her husband Mack Alton Gillespie and her son Larry Wayne Pulliam.
