Obituaries for March 26, 2014
Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 29th at Bright-Holland Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Sanders officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Meadowbrook Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mr. Taylor was born April 17, 1934 in Paris to Marion Emmitt Taylor and Ola Mae (Morris) Taylor. His father’s mother was a Modoc Native American.
Survivors include one son, Kenneth R. Taylor & wife Jennifer Kay of San Antonio, three daughters, Sharlotte Gooding of Houston, Karen Hinson of Paris, and Michele Taylor of Orlando, FL, 10 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren.
He had a distinguished career in the United States Army and retired as a Master Sergeant. He was a veteran of Vietnam and served six of his twenty years with the Defense Nuclear Agency, receiving a Joint Service Commendation Medal for his duties as Senior Personnel/Finance Manager. He also served as a Yeoman in the U. S. Navy during the Korean Conflict, stationed on Guam, Marianas Islands. Harrell was a graduate of J. G. Wooten Elementary, Paris High School and received a BS in History at East Texas State University. Even though retired, he served as high school supervisor for four semesters, then taught German & Korean languages for another two semesters at the Pathway Christian Academy prior to his full retirement.
