THELIA SKEEN JONES, 87, of San Marcos, formerly of Paris, passed away peacefully Saturday, September 1, 2012 with her son, Randy by her side. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Ken Cannon officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. The family is to receive friends from 1:00 PM until service time prior to the funeral at the church. Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.
Thelia was born March 4, 1925 in the Mount Joy Community of Delta County to Roy Penn and Jewel Stanley Skeen. She graduated from Enloe High School and received her registered nursing degree from Paris Junior College in 1970. She married Alvis Harden Jones on May 12, 1945 in Cooper. He preceded her in death July 10, 2005.
Mrs. Jones is survived by her son, Randy Jones of Driftwood, Texas; one sister, Betty Thompson of Cooper; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and Lucky. She was preceded in death by her parents; her twin sister, Thalia McCarter; and sisters, Patsy and Margaret, all whom she loved so very much.
Mrs. Jones was a surgical nurse at McCuistion Regional Medical Center for 35 years where, for the last 10 years of her career, she served as director of the emergency room. Thelia and Alvis volunteered for their church and community. Together they shared their home and dining table for many round table conversations with friends and family and for those that had the pleasure of experiencing will never forget. She taught the Mustard Seeds teenage girls Sunday school class at First Baptist Church for many years. Thelia was the pianist at Graham Street Baptist Church and was always willing to play for any occasion in the community.
Thelia will always be remembered for her infectious smile and gift of laughter. She never met a stranger and was always willing to help others. She was honest, kind, sincere and was the rare individual that positively affected all those she met. She loved people in such a pure way that it was awe inspiring and she will be forever missed.
Randy would like to send a special thank you to all her friends who loved and helped her in San Marcos and Driftwood.
