Mrs. Jones, the daughter of Alfred C. and Gladys Bridgers Melton, and Jack Allen, was born August 8, 1947, in Sumner, TX. She was a retired nurse from Paris Regional Medical Center after 30 years of dedicated service to others. She attended The Paris Church of God. She was always looking out for others more than herself. She never turned her back on anyone that needed her. When she didn’t have a grandbaby on her knee, she had a book in her hand. Her son, David, gave her a Kindle so she was never without a book. She loved the many trips taken with her sisters. They just recently visited the various places of her childhood in Dallas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marcus Jones, her parents, a granddaughter, Heather Ann Lawler, her sister, Sylvia “Katy” Whitaker, one brother, Clifford “Bo” Melton, and nephew Andy Sikes.
Left on earth to cherish her memory include her 5 children, Monica Lawler and husband Greg of Idabel, OK, David Whitaker and wife Deneen of Powderly, Sean Whitaker and wife Kimberly of Azle, Kathy Gentle of Paris and Mark Whitaker and wife Alicia of Tyler, a son-in-law William Gentle, 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 4 sisters, Rose Kernell and Donna Lee of Paris, Joann Wintermute and Deborah McFatridge of Faught, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends who loved her dearly.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Eric Whitaker, Kaleb Whitaker, Aaron Lawler, Brian Lawler, Josh Payne, Justin Payne, Jason Payne, and Coby Whitaker. Honorary Pallbearers will be her nephews: Richard Sikes, Gerald Beshirs Jr., Billy Lee, Kristopher Melton, and Clay Grose.
Shirley made a lasting mark in all our hearts. Our grief is only lessened because she is with our Savior, Jesus Christ.
