Mary Bush0001Mary Ruth Bush, 82, of Paris, unexpectedly passed away, Sunday, December 15, 2013 at Spring Lake Assisted Living.

Bright-Holland Funeral Home has scheduled graveside services for 2:00 pm, Friday, December 20, 2013 at Meadowbrook Gardens Cemetery, with O.J. Bush and Jim Veith officiating.  She will lie in repose at the funeral home, until the day of the service.  No formal visitation is scheduled.

Ruth was born September 20, 1931 in Ben Franklin, TX to J.P. Bush and Pearl Hazel Freeman Bush.  She graduated from Delmar High School, East Texas State University in Commerce and she received her Master of Education degree from Texas Tech University in Lubbock.  Ruth taught school in Midland,TX for 37 years before returning to Paris in 2004.

She is preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Betty Jo Shirley and a brother, Edwin Bush.  Survivors include a brother, O.J. Bush; a brother-in-law, Bruce Shirley; a sister-in-law, Marie Bush; nieces, Linda Shirley Jenkins and Stacie Bush-Veith & husband, Jim; nephews, Stephen Bush and Bart Bush.

Paul H. RooseveltPaul H. Roosevelt, 87, of Commerce, Texas passed away on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, in Paris, Texas.

A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 20, at the First Presbyterian Church of Commerce, and the university flag will fly at half staff on Friday at Texas A&M-Commerce, where he was employed from 1952 to 1983.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Johnson Roosevelt, of Commerce; children Jack Roosevbelt and Teresa of Conway, Ark.; Nancy Stallings and Brad of Paris; Robin Johnson Alexander and George of Greenville; and Rick Pedersen of Cooper.

Paul was born March 23, 1926 in Edwards County, Illinois to John Earl Roosevelt and Edith May Roosevelt.  He was a U.S. Marine Corp veteran of World War II, serving primarily on the island of Saipan in the Pacific Theatre.

He received his Bachelor’s Degree at Eastern Illinois University, his Master’s Degree at Northwestern and he was awarded the first PhD at Southern Illinois University.

He established the Speech and Hearing Program at East Texas State University as well as the Speech and Hearing Clinic. He served as the director of the program from 1952 until his retirement in 1983. Following his retirement, he was named professor emeritus of speech and hearing.

Paul married Kathryn June Jack on Aug. 11, 1949 and she preceded him in death in 1983. He was preceded in death by his parents, other family members Robert and Ruth Roosevelt, John E. Roosevelt, Howard Boewe, Wayne and Mary Challacombe, Jeanann Roosevelt, Penny Roosevelt King and Sonja Johnson Pedersen.

Other survivors include grandchildren Nicholas and Alex Stallings of Fayetteville, Ark.; Chase Pedersen of Austin; Kolt Pedersen of Morgantown, W.V.; Dylan Pedersen of Nacogdoches; Abbie and Katie Duncan and George Alexander Jr. of Greenville; and Evelyn Roosevelt Boewe, Donald and Elaine Roosevelt, and Darrell and Wanda Roosevelt all of Illinois. He is also survived by a host of nnieces, nephews and friends.
