Marlene Sue Jones Houck, 72, of Blossom, Texas died December 15, 2013, at her home after a lengthy battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Lanny. She is also survived by children Kim and Brad, and grandchildren Brook, Shea, and Daniel, all living in Colorado.
Marlene was the daughter of Gerald and Eureva Jones (deceased), of Topeka, Kansas. She graduated from Highland Park High School in 1959. Marlene married Lanny Ross Houck in 1959 in Topeka, and they and their two children moved to Denver, Colorado, in 1966. Marlene had an Associate’s Degree in biology. She worked for a while at the Adams County, Colorado, Animal control department, helping both the animals and people close to them. She also worked for many years for Frontier Airlines in the lost-and-found area, where she helped return lost possessions to air travelers, and found surprising things that people left behind. In 1984, she returned to her love of dogs with the joint founding and operation of Tiny Treasures Kennel with Lanny. In 1993, along with their daughter Kim, they created Lifeline Puppy Rescue. Lifeline Puppy Rescue is a no-kill shelter in Colorado that collects puppies from families and other shelters throughout Colorado and surrounding states, and adopts them out to Denver-area families. Marlene and Lanny retired to Blossom in 2007, where they enjoyed participation in many activities at the Blossom Senior Center. She will be greatly missed by the many people who know and love her.
Services will be held at Bright-Holland Funeral Home, in Paris, Texas, Thursday, December 19th at 2:00 p.m.
