This past Monday, September 17, 2012, Dorothy Nell Howell Brown went home to her heavenly Father and a great reunion with her beloved husband; Woodrow Brown; her parents, Lewis H. and Allie Cummings Howell; brothers, baby Howell, Thomas J. Howell and James Lawrence Howell and his wife JoAnn; sisters, Velma Ruth Howell and Gladys Francis Howell Sheridan, grandson-in-law Brad Davis and one nephew Robert Lewis Howell II.

Robert Lewis Howell and his wife Nadene of Sherman, TX is the lone remaining sibling.

Dorothy was born April 7, 1924 in Fannin County, TX. She graduated from Leonard High School in Fannin County, TX in May of 1941 and attended Draughoms Business School in Dallas, TX. She worked for and retired from Union Carbide Corp. Linde Division after 42 years and 1 month of service. On retiring she moved to Paris, TX where she was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church and was a long time secretary of the J.O.Y. Sunday School Class. She loved cooking and was noted for making candy and fruit Pizza. She liked to sit at the window and watch the birds at the feeders in her backyard, was an avid reader and sports fan. She especially loved football and her Cowboys. A true blessing to her was her husband, Woodrow Brown, whom she married October 4, 1947. Woodie died July 26, 1962.

In addition to her brother she is survived by her step-daughter, Sandy Brown Steelman and her husband Alton of Gilmer, TX; granddaughter Susan Steelman Davis of Shreveport, LA; grandson John Paul Steelman and his wife Becky of Longview, TX; great grandchildren, Katie-Beth and Lauralee Davis of Shreveport, LA, Syndee and Sophia Steelman of Longview, TX and step-great grandchildren, Jay and Erin Whittenberg of Longview, TX. A very special nephew Lewis W. Sheridan and wife Doris of Paris, TX; nephews Dan and Jeff Howell of Arlington, TX and a niece Amy Howell Alaniz and husband Jim of McAllen, TX; a special grand-niece, Carla Sheridan Spann and husband Phil of Paris; grand nephews, Gerald Sheridan and wife Tina of Paris and Darrel “Bo” Sheridan and wife Tralisa of White Oak, TX; Great Grand Niece and nephews, Keith Sheridan and wife Stefanie of Haslet, TX, Kyle Sheridan and wife Jenna of Celina, TX, Kacie Sheridan Bone and husband JD of Ft. Worth, TX, Brooke and Leslie Spann of Denton, TX, Jansen Spann of Paris, Leigha and Landry Sheridan of White Oak, Lexi Howell of Kennedale, Catlain Howell of Arlington, James and Kate Alaniz of McAllen and a great-great grand nephew Callen Blake Sheridan. They were all “her kids”.

Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home will conduct services in their chapel 10:00 a.m. Wednesday,  Sept. 19, 2012 with Eric Moore and Jeff Reid officiating. Burial will follow in Restland Memorial Cemetery in Dallas at 3:00 p.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 7-8 p.m. Tuesday.

Pallbearers will be John Paul Steelman, Dan Howell, Jeff Howell, Keith Sheridan, Kyle Sheridan, Landry Sheridan and Jansen Spann.

Dexter E. McCurry, Sr., 80, of Paris, passed away Monday, Sept. 17, 2012, at his home.

Bright-Holland Funeral Home has scheduled services for 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 20th, under the Pavilion of Forest Chapel Cemetery with Rev. Brad Crosswhite officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Forest Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 – 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. McCurry, the son of Clifford Earl & Flossie Mae Bullard McCurry, was born May 2, 1932, in Chicota.

He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict with the 116th Combat Engineer “B” Company. He retired from the Texas Department of Public Safety in 1990, following 26 years of service to the state.

On Oct. 7, 1955, he married Sammie Lee Foster, and she preceded him in death on Dec. 15, 1987. He then married Loretta Newman in 1992, and she preceded him in death in 2009.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and two daughters, Susie Spencer and Diane McCurry.

Survivors include a son, Dexter E. McCurry, Jr., a son-in-law, Bobby Spencer of Paris,  grandchildren, Bobbie Jeanette Minerd & husband Ralph, Jr., Tonya Pope & husband Tim, Dexter E. McCurry, III and Toby McCurry, great grandchildren, Kandi, Andrea and Ralph Minerd, III, Rusty and Brandalynn Pope and Daisy McCurry, a sister, Lea Jean of South Carolina along with a host of friends.

Casket bearers will be: Bobby Spencer, Gene Howard, Aaron Fox, Tim Pope, Rusty Pope & Ralph Minerd, III. Honorary bearers will be: Ralph Minerd, Jr., James McCurry, Bryce Vanderburg and Charles Foster.
