Mike Johnson, 69, of Paris, died at 1:30 AM, Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at Paris Regional Medical Center-South. A funeral service is set for 10:00 AM, Saturday, April 21, 2012 in the chapel of Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home with Rev. Ken Cannon officiating. Burial will be inEvergreenCemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Friday evening at the funeral home. Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.
Mike was born November 20, 1942 to L.C. and Hazel Moore Johnson inParis. He graduated fromParisHigh Schooland received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from East Texas State University. He spent almost four decades in public education teaching history and special education and coaching football and basketball with 30 years in the North Lamar ISD. He retired as principal ofCecilEverettElementary School. In past years, Mike had been active in the Optimist Club and was involved in Special Olympics. He married Gene Cole Booker on August 2, 1986 inParis. He was a member of First Baptist Church.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Gene Johnson of Paris; six children, Brett Johnson and wife, Kimberly of Dallas, Chad Johnson and wife, Alexis of Forney, Johnny Booker and wife, Alyona of Marysville, Washington, Sabrina Bryant and husband, Scottie of Honey Grove, Andrea Armstrong of Texarkana, Texas, and Adrian Booker and wife, Anela of Kapolei, Hawaii; eighteen grandchildren; his sister, Shirley Ann Bates and husband, David of Pflugerville, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Pallbearers will be Dan Bono, Jerry Chandler, Billy Ray Douglas, Scottie Bryant, James Dawson, Bryan Farney, and Brent Farney.
